JUNE 1, 2019 – Joe’s Pub, a program of The Public Theater, presents the NYC DEBUT of Fishman and Farhang, a new collaborative project from composer, guitarist, and singer HOWARD FISHMAN and acclaimed violinist RUSSELL FARHANG. For tickets, click here.
As one half of the Howard Fishman Quartet, Fishman and Farhang have been making music together for twenty years. Together, they have toured the US and Europe, winning audiences over with their unique blend of classic American song, jazz, country, blues, swing, and gospel, all filtered through a wide open creative lens.
The New York Times describes Fishman as a "charismatic rhythm guitarist and an endearingly low-key singer" and calls Farhang's violin playing as having "gorgeous, finely shaped cadenzas executed with perfect intonation, twirling pirouettes and subtly bent notes...and a fluent sense of melodic invention."
The pair has only recently begun performing in duo format, and the Joe’s Pub engagement will be their first official NYC showing of the new project. The evening showcases the pair’s unique musical chemistry with storytelling and revelations from their two decades of performing and recording together. To date, the show has been workshopped in front of live audiences in London, Vermont, and Upstate NY.
